Osaka Castle Castle Tower

Before visiting Osaka Castle’s castle tower, let’s learn about its history. Toyotomi Hideyoshi wanted to build a large castle suitable for the ruler's residence, so he built Osaka Castle on the Ishiyama Honganji site in 1583. After Hideyoshi's death, power shifted to the Tokugawa clan, and Osaka Castle was toppled at Natsunojin, Osaka in 1615. Osaka Castle was rebuilt over a period of about 10 years. The castle tower was destroyed by lightning in 1665, but the current castle tower was rebuilt in 1931 thanks to the enthusiasm of the citizens, and was designated as a registered tangible cultural property in 1997!

How can I get to Osaka Castle?

There are several ways to get to Osaka Castle from Namba Station in downtown Osaka, but it usually takes about 30 minutes. Among them, I will introduce the method of moving with the least amount of walking.

The easiest way is to take the Midosuji Line and then transfer to the Chuo Line. There are four subway stations surrounding Osaka Castle, and the fastest way is to take the Chuo Line and get off at Tanimachi Yonchome Station and walk.
