This group tour from Osaka or Kyoto visits Amanohashidate, Ine Funaya, and Miyama Kayabuki-no-Sato in northern Kyoto in one day. At Amanohashidate, one of Japan's Three Scenic Views, ride a lift up to the observation deck and try "matanozoki," looking upside down through your legs to see the sandbar turn into a dragon flying across the sky. Cross the bay by sightseeing boat with seagulls flying alongside, then walk through Ine, where funaya boathouses line the water. In the afternoon, stroll through Miyama, a mountain village of 38 thatched-roof houses. English and Chinese-speaking guides accompany the tour, and the lift and sightseeing boat are included.

Ride up to the Amanohashidate observation deck
to see the flying dragon view
Travel from Osaka (7:30 AM) or Kyoto (8:00 AM) to Amanohashidate in an air-conditioned vehicle. Ride the single-seat chairlift or monorail up to the Amanohashidate View Land observation deck and try "matanozoki," bending over to look through your legs so the sandbar appears like a dragon soaring into the sky.
Visit Chion-ji and cross the bay by boat

Stop at Chion-ji, a temple dedicated to Monju Bosatsu, the bodhisattva of wisdom, and see the Kaisenkyo swing bridge. Then enjoy about 20 minutes on a sightseeing boat across the bay, taking in views of the sandbar as seagulls fly right up to the boat.
Walk through Ine, the funaya village on the sea

Head to Ine, known as the "Venice of the sea," and enjoy about 45 minutes of free time walking among the funaya boathouses. See the unique boathouses up close from Ineura Park, and you can stop by INE CAFE, a converted boathouse, for coffee with a view of the bay.
Stroll through the thatched village of Miyama Kayabuki-no-Sato

In the afternoon, travel into the mountains of Kyoto to Miyama Kayabuki-no-Sato. Spend about 30 minutes strolling through the village of 38 traditional thatched-roof farmhouses, some more than 200 years old, set beside a flowing stream, before returning to your starting point.
