Depart Osaka or Kyoto by minibus
to visit northern Kyoto's temples and shrines
This day tour travels in an air-conditioned minibus with up to 9 participants and an English-speaking driver-guide. Start with hotel/B&B pickup within the Osaka Loop Line (7:30–8:00 AM) or meet at Kintetsu Nippombashi Station Exit 2 at 8:00 AM; in Kyoto, join at 7-Eleven Kyoto Hachijo-higashi at 9:00 AM.
The guide mainly drives and provides basic explanations and does not accompany you inside the sites, so you explore each stop freely during the allotted time.
Discover a Kyoto Zen temple
at Nanzen-ji or Eikando

The first stop is either Nanzen-ji or Eikando, chosen by the guide on the day, for about 90 minutes. Nanzen-ji is one of Kyoto's highest-ranking Zen temples, with its grand Sanmon gate and the red-brick Lake Biwa Canal aqueduct. Eikando is famous for its Amida Buddha looking back over its shoulder, hillside corridors, pond garden and autumn leaves.
During cherry blossom season, time may be added for a walk under the blossoms along the Philosopher's Path.
Stroll the moss gardens of Sanzen-in in Ohara

Spend about 90 minutes at Sanzen-in, a 1,200-year-old Tendai temple set in the rural Ohara valley. See the Amida Buddha among ancient cedars and the charming Jizo statues hidden in the moss garden, with free time for lunch surrounded by quiet mountains.
Ride the Eizan Railway
and climb the red steps of Kifune Shrine

Ride the Eizan Railway for about 22 minutes from Hachimanmae to Kurama Station. The line connects the city with the forested northern mountains, with cherry blossoms in spring, fresh greenery in summer, a roughly 250 m tunnel of autumn leaves in fall and snow-covered branches in winter.
Then spend about 90 minutes at Kifune Shrine. Climb the iconic stone steps lined with red lanterns and enjoy seasonal scenes such as kawadoko riverside dining in summer, autumn foliage and snow illuminations in winter. Depart around 4:30 PM, arriving in Kyoto (7-Eleven Hachijo-higashi) around 5:00 PM and Osaka around 6:00 PM.
※ The order of the itinerary may change due to weather, traffic or operational reasons.
※ Eizan Railway scenery, cherry blossoms and autumn leaves vary by season and weather and are not guaranteed.
※ Arrival in Osaka may be delayed depending on traffic.
