Leave Malang around midnight
and greet the Bromo sunrise from a viewpoint

After pickup from your accommodation in Malang after midnight, travel about 3 hours with an experienced local jeep driver to Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park. Passing through volcanic terrain to a panoramic sunrise viewpoint, spend about 1.5 hours watching the sunlight fill the Bromo Tengger Caldera, Mount Bromo, Mount Batok and the surrounding mountains.

Cross the Sea of Sand by jeep

After sunrise, ride the jeep across the Sea of Sand, the vast volcanic desert surrounding Mount Bromo. Drive over volcanic sand and off-road tracks in a classic 4WD jeep and feel Bromo's unique landscape.

Climb the stairs and look into the Bromo crater

Get off near the foot of the volcano, walk toward the crater, and climb the stairs to the rim to look down into the active volcano as smoke and steam rise. Spend about 1.5 hours exploring and taking photos, then cross the Sea of Sand back and ride the jeep about 3 hours to Malang.
