Mount Bromo Sunrise & Crater Tour from Malang - Private

Leave Malang at midnight
for the Mount Bromo sunrise viewpoint

Pickup is at midnight (00:00) from your hotel or Airbnb in Malang, or from Malang Kota Baru Station. After about 2 hours in a private air-conditioned car, you switch to a 4WD jeep at the entrance to Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park. An English-speaking driver acts as your coordinator throughout the trip.

The jeep climbs mountain roads for about 1 hour to the viewpoint, where you spend about 2 hours waiting for the sunrise and taking photos. As the sun rises, the silhouettes of Mount Bromo, Mount Batok and Mount Semeru appear above the clouds.

Cross the Sea of Sand and climb to the Bromo crater

After sunrise, the jeep takes you down to the vast volcanic plain called the 'Sea of Sand' (Lautan Pasir), where you enjoy the views for about 1 hour. At the foot of Mount Bromo you walk or ride a horse (extra cost, paid on site) to the stairs, then climb up to look into the smoking active crater. The crater visit takes about 1 hour.

Take photos at Widodaren Hill and head back

Before heading back, you stop at Widodaren Hill to take photos with the jeep and volcano in the background. Then it is about 30 minutes by jeep and about 2 hours by car. On the way back you can have breakfast at a local cafe in Probolinggo, but breakfast is not included. The tour ends in Malang city or at Malang Kota Baru Station, and the Surabaya drop-off option ends in Surabaya.
