In the morning, a representative picks you up from your hotel in Cairo. The drive to El Fayoum, about 95 km from Cairo, takes about 2 hours, and the day's sightseeing takes place within the Wadi El Rayan Protected Area, declared a protectorate in 1989.

Explore Wadi Al-Hitan, the Valley of the Whales

Visit Wadi Al-Hitan (Valley of the Whales) within the Wadi El Rayan Protected Area. It is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site for the 40-million-year-old whale skeleton fossils found here. Ride across the desert in a 4x4 vehicle and take in the unique landscape.

Wadi El Rayan is a natural depression in the Western Desert, 42 m below sea level, with two lakes connected by Egypt's only waterfalls. It was formed in 1970 when drainage water from Fayoum's farmland overflowed.
