Meet the works of carving and woodblock printing masters at the
Ukiyo-e Museum
Have you ever seen Ukiyo-e works inserted into restaurant walls, postcards, or clothing and other accessories? Ukiyo-e works refer to Japanese genre paintings from the 17th to early 20th centuries, and the Ukiyo-e Museum exhibits works by many Ukiyo-e masters such as Katsushika Hokusai and Utagawa Hiroshige.
This is a great place to see if you are interested in traditional Japanese art. At the museum, you can see beautiful works depicting everything from typical Japanese landscapes and nature to sumo wrestling, painted between 1603 and 1868.
Why you should visit

The Ukiyo-e Museum is located in the arcade of the Shinsaibashisuji shopping street, which is crowded with shoppers. It is about a 5-minute walk from Osaka Metro Shinsaibashi Station. You can see works from the Edo to Meiji periods up close, focusing on artists such as Katsushika Hokusai, Utagawa Hiroshige, Kitagawa Utamaro, and Higashisai Sharaku. The Ukiyo-e Museum is the only place that has a large collection of works related to Kansai.
Meet Katsushika Hokusai Tomitake 36

Katsushika Hokusai's Tomitake Thirty-Six Views 'Kanagawa Okinami' and 'Kaihu Kaisei' are on permanent display! In fact, the fact that you can see these works is reason enough to visit the Ukiyo-e Museum.
You can buy Edo period works

One of the most popular items in the museum shop is the fact that you can purchase Ukiyo-e prints folded in the Edo period. You can actually purchase them, from works around 10,000 yen to works worth hundreds of thousands of yen.
