Even a round trip from Tokyo Station to Nagata Station is cheaper!

If one adult uses the Joetsu Shinkansen (Tokyo Station - Niigata Station) with a reserved seat, a round-trip transportation fee of 21,000 yen is required. If you use the JR East Pass (Nagano/Nigata area) from WAUG, you can use it for 16,000 yen, including the use of the aforementioned transportation methods and unlimited hop-on/hop-off in the Tokyo and Niigata areas. It's much more economical!
