From Malang: Tumpak Sewu Waterfall & Mount Bromo Sunrise 2-Day Tour

Day 1: Trek to Tumpak Sewu Waterfall
and Tetes Cave

Pickup is at 5:30 AM in Malang, followed by a drive of about 2 hours through local villages and mountain areas. At Tumpak Sewu, you trek over stairs, rocky paths, bamboo bridges and small streams to see the huge waterfall surrounded by rainforest and cliffs up close. Afterward, you cross the valley and follow the stream to Tetes Cave and its unique rock formations.

After the trek, you rest at a local food stall, change into dry clothes and return to your accommodation. With pickup around midnight the next day, it is best to go to bed early.

Day 2: Wait for the Mount Bromo sunrise

Depart Malang at 12:15 AM (around midnight) by 4WD jeep and drive about 2 hours to the sunrise viewpoint. The road is bumpy and partly off-road. On arrival, relax at a local food stall with a warm drink or snack, then watch the sunrise light up Mount Bromo, Mount Batok and the vast volcanic landscape from the viewpoint.

Cross the Sea of Sand and climb Bromo Crater

After sunrise, ride the jeep across the vast Sea of Sand to the parking area below Mount Bromo. Walk across the volcanic terrain and climb the stairs to the crater, where you can see the active crater and surrounding scenery up close.
