This tour leaves Malang before dawn for a full day at Tumpak Sewu Waterfall in the Lumajang area of East Java. First you look down from a panoramic viewpoint at the falls pouring wide into a jungle canyon, then trek down stairs and rocky water channels with a local trekking leader to the base of the falls. You can feel the spray up close and, if you like, continue the trek to Goa Tetes, a cave waterfall. Pickup from your Malang accommodation, entrance fees and an Indonesian lunch are included, so solo travelers can join easily too.

Leave Malang at dawn
and head to Tumpak Sewu Waterfall
Your driver picks you up from your accommodation in central Malang between 5:00 and 6:00 AM. The drive to the Lumajang area, where Tumpak Sewu is located, takes about 2 to 2.5 hours, and the early start helps avoid traffic and arrive before the crowds.
Look down from the viewpoint, then descend to the base
At the parking area you meet your local trekking leader for a safety briefing and walk to a panoramic viewpoint overlooking Tumpak Sewu. Then you descend for 40 to 60 minutes along stairs, rocky water channels and slippery jungle paths to the base of the falls. Right in front of the falls, the spray will soak you completely.
Explore the river and Goa Tetes cave
At the bottom you can explore the river around the falls or walk about 30 minutes more to Goa Tetes (Tetes Cave), a cave waterfall. Total time at the waterfall is 3 to 4 hours.
Enjoy an Indonesian lunch and return to Malang
After the trek you return to the parking area to wash up and change, then have a simple Indonesian lunch at a local warung (eatery). Washing facilities are available, but the toilet fee is not included. You are expected back at your Malang accommodation around 4:00 to 5:00 PM, but depending on traffic arrival may be between 5:30 and 6:30 PM.
