From Chiang Mai: Chiang Rai White, Blue & Red Temple Day Tour

White, Blue and Red Temples in one day

This is a day tour of about 12 hours that travels north from Chiang Mai to Chiang Rai. Visit the White Temple (Wat Rong Khun), the Blue Temple (Wat Rong Suea Ten) and the Red Temple (Wat Huay Pla Kang) in one loop, with breaks at scenic cafes along the way. You travel by air-conditioned vehicle, and your guide explains the route, pace and cultural background of each temple so you can focus on the details and photos.

Chiang Rai is about 172 km (around 3 hours) one way from Chiang Mai. Departure method and guide language depend on the option you book: meeting point or hotel pickup, group or private tour.

Stop at Phu Fah Sai Cafe
and a Karen village

After about 2 hours on the road, relax for around 30 minutes with a coffee at Phu Fah Sai Cafe, whose terrace overlooks layers of green hills. Depending on your option, you then spend about 45 minutes at the village of the Karen people, known for their long necks, taking photos and listening to your guide.

Wat Rong Khun, the White Temple

Spend about 75 minutes at Wat Rong Khun, Chiang Rai's famous White Temple. Thousands of mirror pieces placed by hand make the whole building look more like a sculpture than architecture, and you cross the mirrored bridge to the main hall. The entrance fee (200 baht) is paid on site unless your option includes admission.

Afterwards, enjoy about 30 minutes for lunch at a local restaurant. Meals are at your own expense.

See the Blue Temple
and the Red Temple too

Explore Wat Rong Suea Ten, the Blue Temple with its striking indigo and gold, for about an hour. A 10-minute drive takes you to Wat Huay Pla Kang, where a nine-storey white Guanyin statue looks over the red temple grounds; spend about an hour here to finish the tour.

On the way back to Chiang Mai, stop at Lalitta Cafe for about 20 minutes for one more break (entry fee extra). The drive back to Chiang Mai then takes about 3.5 hours.
