We had a wonderful time! We were able to ask for a tour geared towards art and history and spent time at museums in addition to shopping and strolling Little Edo. Twobee was fantastic company and a great guide!

Our guide, Taka, was incredibly knowledgeable, friendly and welcoming. He did a wonderful job showing us around Kawagoe. We did a little shopping for our loved ones back home, he showed us the good shops to buy quality handmade items. His restaurant suggestions were fantastic. Would definitely recommend a guided tour with Taka to all our friend visiting Tokyo.

Highlights

This private tour lets you spend a day exploring Kawagoe, the “Little Edo” about 40 minutes from central Tokyo, with a local guide. Walk Kurazukuri Street, lined with warehouse buildings topped with traditional clay tiles, and taste local snacks and traditional sweets at Kashiya Yokocho, the candy alley. You will also visit temples, shrines and historic landmarks, with an itinerary tailored to your interests and a pace that suits you.

Program

Meet your local guide in Tokyo
and head to Little Edo, Kawagoe

Meet your local guide at your hotel or a convenient spot in central Tokyo and travel about 30 minutes by train to Kawagoe. Your guide handles everything from train transfers to exploring hidden alleys, and as a private tour just for your group, you can explore at your own pace. Stops are chosen around your interests such as architecture, food, crafts and history.

Walk the Edo-era streetscape
of Kurazukuri Street

Stroll Kurazukuri Street (about 2 hours), lined with warehouse buildings with clay-tiled roofs, admire the traditional architecture and discover hidden corners, photo spots and local shops. At the Kawagoe Kurazukuri Museum (about 30 minutes), you can see traditional arts and crafts.

Taste local snacks and traditional sweets
at Kashiya Yokocho

Explore Kashiya Yokocho, Kawagoe’s candy alley, to discover local specialties, and taste regional dishes and traditional snacks while your guide explains their history and how they are made. Food and drink costs are not included.

Discover Kawagoe’s history at
shrines and the castle site

Visit temples, shrines and historic landmarks such as Kawagoe Castle Honmaru Goten, Kawagoe Hachimangu and Kawagoe Hikawa Shrine (about 30 minutes each), hearing stories passed down through the town. At the end of the tour, return to Tokyo by train in about 30 minutes. The tour lasts about 7 hours.
