Highlights

Enjoy a samurai experience at Samurai Theater Tokyo, a museum-like dojo displaying armor and weapons. Choose your favorite kimono and hakama, then learn the basics of drawing, swinging and sheathing a sword from instructors who have appeared in major Japanese dramas and films. After the basics, practice chanbara (sword fighting) and act out a scene defeating villains to music. Take photos and videos with the samurai to remember the experience.

Program

Put on a kimono and hakama
and become a samurai

On arrival at the dojo, choose your favorite kimono and hakama and change into samurai attire. The dojo displays many weapons, including swords and spears, as well as armor, creating the atmosphere of a traditional samurai space.

Learn how to handle a sword from a samurai

Instructors who have appeared in major Japanese dramas and films explain each part of the sword and teach you step by step how to draw, hold, swing and sheathe it. You'll practice safely with an imitation sword that cannot cut.

Defeat villains with chanbara swordplay

Once you've mastered the basic moves, practice simple chanbara (sword fighting). Then act out a scene with the samurai, defeating villains to music.

Capture photos and videos with the samurai

Film your sword-fighting scene on your smartphone and take souvenir photos with the samurai. Solo participants and same-day bookings are welcome.
