This was phenomenal on all levels. The experience, the educational component, the presenter Komei was engaging well versed and made us feel at home on every level. The matcha he provided was of the finest quality and even had supplies on hand for us to purchase.

Excellent experience! Ryoko was a great instructor/guide. I loved learning about the history of Matcha. I also enjoyed trying the Matcha that I made. I will try this experience again the next time I’m in Tokyo.

This was awesome (as a 50 y/o guy). Very intimate, informative, and entertaining evening. The location was residential, but it just added to the experience. A nice oasis just a few blocks from the busy streets of Tokyo. Recommend this experience as highly unique.

Great. Eric was a master in Tea ceremony. Explained everything in detail and provided a lot of history.

Highlights

Immerse yourself in the world of matcha in Tokyo while dressed in a beautiful kimono! Explore a collection of approximately 400 types of matcha sourced from across Japan. Compare carefully selected first-flush matchas by sight, smell, and taste to find your perfect match. Learn about different tea types, the philosophy of tea ceremony, and the matcha production process, then craft and savor your own matcha using traditional tools. Highly recommended for travelers who wish to experience both traditional tea ceremony and matcha tasting.

Program

Mastering Matcha & Tea Ceremony in Kimono

Before your experience begins, choose a kimono that catches your eye and put it on. Designed for easy and quick wear compared to standard kimonos, you can start your experience comfortably without a complicated dressing process. After putting on your kimono, you'll first learn about the differences between various teas like green tea, black tea, and Chinese tea. You'll also delve into the profound philosophy behind Japanese tea ceremony and etiquette, as well as learn about the cultivation, production, and characteristics of matcha.

Discover Special Matcha from a Collection of Over 400 Varieties

This venue boasts a collection of approximately 400 types of matcha gathered from various regions of Japan. Experience the subtle differences in matcha firsthand by tasting specially selected, high-quality first-flush matchas. Compare their colors visually, savor their aromas, and then taste them to discover your personal favorite. You can also learn about the distinctions between Japanese-grown matcha and those produced internationally, making it a particularly engaging experience for matcha enthusiasts.

Make Your Own Matcha and Learn Tea Ceremony Etiquette

After gaining a thorough understanding of matcha, it's time to prepare your own using traditional tea ceremony tools. You'll be guided step-by-step through the process, from preparing the matcha powder to creating a beautiful bowl. While enjoying the matcha you've made, you'll also learn how to handle the tea bowl and the basic etiquette for drinking matcha. This experience goes beyond simple tasting, offering a comprehensive exploration of matcha's flavor, aroma, culture, and philosophy.
