Sehr gut! Man merkt das sie sehr viel Erfahrung hat und das Chado Ihre Leidenschaft ist. Würde ich in Japan leben, würde ich gerne bei ihr lernen. Die 1,5 Stunden mit Ihr gehören zu mein Highlight. Thank you Mika for a moment of Peace and tranquility 🩷

This was definitely a highlight of our trip! Mika’s English was excellent. She was incredibly knowledgeable and is a true practitioner of “the way of tea.” This experience was aimed at passing on knowledge and understanding. It wasn’t just a guided tea experience where the proprietor checked the boxes. Mika runs a school teaching Japanese students “the way of tea” and has been practicing the tea ceremony for 30 years. I highly recommend this experience!

Mike was very welcoming and knowledgeable. Her English is excellent and she was happy to answer any questions. Be prepared to sit on the floor for 90 mins which I found uncomfortable. Ceremony was nearly 2 hrs but may have been a little slower as she didn’t have an assistant in the day. Very much a highlight of our trip.

Highlights

Experience the authentic Japanese tea ceremony with a certified instructor in a traditional tea house in Asakusa! Learn about the history and philosophy of the tea ceremony, the meaning behind the tea room and utensils, and taste rich matcha (koicha) through a formal tea ceremony process. You'll also get hands-on practice making usucha with a bamboo whisk. With sakura tea, traditional Japanese sweets, and meditation included, this is recommended for travelers who want to delve deeper into Japan's tea culture.

Program

From the History of Tea Ceremony to Matcha Making

Immerse yourself in the profound Japanese tea ceremony (茶道, Chadō) at a traditional tea house near Asakusa. Begin with sakura tea, learn about the history and core concepts of the tea ceremony, and find tranquility in the tea room through meditation before enjoying your tea.

Following this, appreciate the formal tea ceremony presented by the instructor, accompanied by traditional Japanese sweets, and participate in a hands-on matcha-making session. This isn't just a matcha tasting; it's a workshop where you'll gradually learn about the history, space, tools, and procedures of the tea ceremony.

Savor Rich Matcha (Koicha) with a Formal Tea Ceremony

Witness the instructor perform the formal tea ceremony and encounter koicha (濃茶), a thick, concentrated form of matcha highly valued in the ceremony. Before tasting the tea, enjoy traditional Japanese sweets and explore various tea bowls from different regions. Learn how the shape and characteristics of the bowls influence the tea-drinking experience through the instructor's explanations.

Make and Taste Usucha Yourself

After observing the instructor's demonstration, it's your turn to make matcha. Learn about matcha powder and the tea utensils, then try making usucha (薄茶), a lighter form of matcha, using a bamboo whisk (chasen). Enjoy Japanese dry sweets before savoring your usucha. Slowly taste the matcha you've made yourself to conclude the workshop.

Main Program:
Sakura Tea → Introduction to Tea Ceremony Video → Tea Room Introduction → Traditional Sweets → Meditation → Tea Ceremony Demonstration → Koicha Tasting → Tea Bowl Introduction → Usucha Making → Dry Sweets → Usucha Tasting → Matcha Introduction
