This is a snowmobile safari in Levi, Finnish Lapland, riding through snowy forests and across frozen lakes with a local Sámi guide. More than half of the approximately 25 km route runs on the operator's private land and own trails, so it is quieter than busy public routes. Along the way, you warm up by the fire in a tipi with a hot drink, and before departure you can also take photos with reindeer. You also receive a free short video filmed by the action camera on the lead snowmobile.
Meet at Levi Tourist Information and travel about 10 minutes by van to start your adventure at a reindeer farm. Before departure, there is time (about 15 minutes) to take photos with reindeer.
An experienced Sámi guide explains the history of snowmobiles and the driving basics. You will also hear how, in the 1960s, Sámi reindeer herders swapped skis for snowmobiles to reach remote pastures. The snowmobiles are modern low-emission 4-stroke touring models built for Arctic conditions, and carbon offsetting is included in every safari.
For about 2 hours, ride a 25 km route that crosses frozen lakes and winds through snowy forests. More than half of the route is on the operator's private land and own snowmobile tracks, so it is quieter than busy public routes. Two people share one snowmobile and take turns driving and riding.
Midway, take a break in the operator's private wilderness hut or tipi. Warm up by the fire and enjoy a traditional Sámi break (kaffebuoddu), chatting over a hot drink under the Arctic sky. The video from the action camera on the lead snowmobile is provided free of charge after the experience.
