This approximately 4–6 hour tour picks you up from your Yogyakarta accommodation around 8:00 PM and drives about 1 hour to a highland village in the Mount Merapi National Park area, where you spend about 2 hours viewing the volcano at night. An English-speaking driver accompanies you, and snacks, drinks, entrance fees, and parking fees are included. You will be dropped back at your accommodation after the tour.

Enjoy mountain views on the way to the highlands

Enjoy the mountain scenery during the roughly 1-hour drive from your accommodation up to the highlands. The car takes you to one of the highest villages, such as Arum Sari or Turgo.

Wait for the lava at a safe viewpoint

On arrival, look out over the slopes of Mount Merapi in the quiet of the mountains. On nights with volcanic activity, you can watch glowing lava slowly lighting up the slopes from a safe distance, a great moment to capture on camera.

If you choose the hilltop option, take a soft hike to the viewpoint for a higher vantage point. The no-hiking option takes you to the viewpoint by car.

End the night with drinks and snacks

Breathe in the cool mountain air, enjoy snacks and drinks, and take in Merapi's night scenery at a relaxed pace. As the night deepens, return to your Yogyakarta accommodation, about 1 hour by car.
