Leave Yogyakarta to watch
the lava of Mount Merapi at night

After pickup from your accommodation, drive about 1 hour to a viewing spot facing Mount Merapi. Spend about 3 hours there relaxing, watching the lava, and taking photos, then return to your accommodation by car.

The whole tour takes 6 to 7 hours. It is a group tour of up to 10 people with an English-speaking guide. Pickup is at 19:00 for the evening tour and 02:30 for the sunrise option.

Watch the flowing lava from a safe viewpoint

The option without hiking observes Mount Merapi from a viewpoint about 6 km away, for about 4 hours or until the lava is visible. Enjoy warm coffee or tea in the cool mountain air while looking toward the peak.

Climb Turgo Hill to see
the lava and city lights together

The hiking options climb Turgo Hill at about 1,000 m above sea level. From the top, see Mount Merapi and its glowing lava along with the lights of Yogyakarta spread out below. The sunrise option also waits for the sunrise from Turgo Hill.
