Yogyakarta Merapi Volcano Night Jeep & Campfire Tour - Dinner Included

Depart from Yogyakarta and
ride through Merapi's night by jeep

This approximately 6-hour night tour picks you up from your Yogyakarta accommodation, takes you to the foothills of Mount Merapi, and continues by 4WD jeep to a viewpoint on the slope. Enjoy a campfire and a warm meal at the outdoor camp while gazing at the stars and the volcano, then return to your accommodation. Guiding is available in English, Indonesian, Javanese, and Malay.

Ride forest trails at night in a 4WD jeep

After about 1 hour in an air-conditioned private vehicle, arrive in Cangkringan at the foot of Mount Merapi, where the local jeep team is waiting. Switch to a 4WD jeep driven by a local driver who knows the terrain well, and enjoy about 1 hour of off-road driving through dense forest trails, quiet mountain roads, and sand-mining tracks.

Enjoy a campfire and dinner at the viewpoint camp

At the designated viewpoint on the slope, your guide sets up an outdoor camp with folding chairs and a canopy. Gather around the campfire to warm up while enjoying freshly cooked noodles (soup or fried), boiled eggs, local snacks, and coffee or tea.

On clear nights with volcanic activity, you may see glowing lava flows or burning rocks near the summit from a safe distance. Relax at the viewpoint at your own pace until around midnight.

Taste gudeg on the way back

When you are ready, ride the jeep slowly back down the forest trail to the base camp. On the way back to Yogyakarta, you can make a short stop to taste gudeg, the city's signature jackfruit dish, if you wish, before your driver takes you back to your accommodation.
