Tea Ceremony in a 100-Year-Old Kyoto Machiya

Experience traditional Japanese tea ceremony at Yumeyakata Oikebettei, located near Kyoto Gyoen. In the serene atmosphere of a machiya that's about 100 years old, learn about Japanese tea culture with a tea master. You'll cover the history of tea ceremony, how to bow, how to eat wagashi, the order of drinking tea, and how to appreciate tea bowls. Small chairs are available if sitting on the floor is uncomfortable.


Make Matcha Yourself with a Tea Master

First, observe the tea master's preparation and learn the meaning behind each movement. Enjoy the prepared tea and sweets for a moment of calm, characteristic of Japanese tea ceremony. After the first serving, you'll have the chance to prepare tea yourself under the guidance of the expert.


Enjoy Kyoto in a Kimono

If you've chosen the kimono rental option, visit the Gojo Shop first to select your desired kimono. Choose from various colors, designs, and sizes, then put it on and head to the tea ceremony venue. The tea ceremony begins 2 hours after your reserved time. For example, if you choose the 11:00 AM option, you'll visit the kimono rental shop at 11:00 AM and start the tea ceremony at 1:00 PM. After the tea ceremony, you can freely explore Kyoto in your kimono and return it to the shop by 5:30 PM.

Visit Yumeyakata Gojo Shop & Select Kimono → Wear Kimono → Individual transfer to Oikebettei → Tea Ceremony → Free exploration of Kyoto → Return Kimono by 17:30
