We created a monster because our skills were not good. Japanese and English are spoken in parallel, so it is easy to understand the language. The staff is friendly.

I did the matcha experience alone, and the Japanese confectionery class was with a Japanese local, so there were two of us. You could choose between English and Japanese explanations, and since I don't speak English well, I listened to the explanation in Japanese. I told the Japanese local who was listening with me that I was traveling and chatted while making it. The themes were four-leaf clovers and sparrows in the sky, but I could make any animal I wanted, so I made a rabbit. I made matcha using Uji matcha leaves ground with a whetstone(?). They also explained the tea leaves and tools, and said that the water temperature is 98 degrees, but it drops to 83 degrees when making matcha, which is the best temperature to drink. They said that I could eat the confectionery I made, but I paid 100 yen and took it away. They said that the confectionery goes better with koicha (heart tea, deep heart) than matcha, and it was nice that I could learn manners for drinking matcha.

I went on a weekday and was the only participant, so I was able to experience it one-on-one. They kindly taught me well (in Japanese) and the difficulty level wasn't that hard! If you're staying in Nihonbashi or Kanda, I think it's worth participating since it's close by! The food was also great!

This approximately 1-hour experience allows you to make two traditional Japanese wagashi. You can create your own wagashi in seasonal flower or fruit shapes. The finished wagashi can be taken home or enjoyed immediately.
