When planning a trip to the Tohoku region, transportation costs were the biggest concern, but the East Japan Pass solved the problem. I made a reservation in advance through Wag and exchanged it right away at the JR East ticket office upon arrival in Japan. You can also freely choose the start date, so it fits your travel schedule perfectly. You can use most trains, including Shinkansen and limited express trains, without restrictions for 5 days. I traveled to Sendai, Aomori, Morioka, and Niigata without any burden. It was convenient because I could board right away in the unreserved seats and reserved seats could be issued without additional fees.
