BESTWe booked the combo to skip lines and it was worth it. Sainte-Chapelle is absolutely stunning, one of the most beautiful churches I’ve ever seen. Conciergerie was less flashy but historically fascinating. If you're into French history and revolutionary era, this combo gives you both beauty and depth. Muy recomendable.

These stained-glass panels depict biblical stories and the history of the French kingdom, with each window showcasing a unique scene.

The History of Sainte-Chapelle

Commissioned by King Louis IX, Sainte-Chapelle was constructed in just seven years, from 1242 to 1248. A prime example of Gothic architecture, it was originally built as a royal chapel for the king and his family.
The interior of Sainte-Chapelle is divided into two floors. The lower chapel, at the entrance, was for the general public, while the upper floor, accessed by stairs, was reserved for royalty and the elite. This upper level is where you'll find the stunning stained-glass windows, often referred to as the 'Treasure of Paris,' offering an overwhelming display of size and beauty.
Stained Glass: A Deeper Appreciation

This is the magnificent stained glass of the upper floor! Standing 14 meters high, it comprises 15 windows. Pay close attention to the intricate details of each panel. A remarkable 1,134 scenes from the Bible are depicted, arranged chronologically from the story of Moses to the crucifixion of Jesus Christ!
Visiting during the day, the light filtering through the windows creates an atmosphere so grand and beautiful, you might feel it's the 'light of God'.
