BESTWe booked the combo to skip lines and it was worth it. Sainte-Chapelle is absolutely stunning, one of the most beautiful churches I’ve ever seen. Conciergerie was less flashy but historically fascinating. If you're into French history and revolutionary era, this combo gives you both beauty and depth. Muy recomendable.
Sainte-Chapelle & Conciergerie:
Paris Icons on One Ticket
Marvel at the 13th-century Sainte-Chapelle, built by King Louis IX to house precious Christian relics, where over 1,100 brilliantly colored stained glass panels depict biblical stories in breathtaking detail. Just steps away, explore the Conciergerie, a former royal palace turned prison that once held Marie Antoinette before her execution. Today, its grand Gothic halls and preserved cells reveal powerful stories of justice, revolution, and resilience. With one ticket, you’ll witness the splendor of medieval craftsmanship and the echoes of France’s most dramatic history.
Paris’ Hidden Gem:
Sainte-Chapelle
Step into one of the greatest masterpieces of Western architecture, the dazzling Sainte-Chapelle. Known for its otherworldly atmosphere, the chapel’s soaring 15-meter columns and 15 radiant stained-glass windows immediately leave visitors in awe. Each glass panel tells a different story, illustrating scenes from the Bible and the history of the French kingdom. Don’t miss the magical moment when sunlight streams through, illuminating over a thousand stories in shimmering color.
A Royal Chapel with a Remarkable Past
Built in just seven years, from 1242 to 1248, by King Louis IX, Sainte-Chapelle was originally a royal chapel reserved for the king and his family. The chapel has two levels: the lower level served ordinary citizens, while the upper level—where the magnificent stained-glass windows remain today—was reserved for the royal court. Known as a “treasure of Paris,” the upper chapel still overwhelms with its scale and beauty.
The Stained Glass That Speaks Volumes
The second-floor windows rise 14 meters high and are composed of 15 panels depicting 1,134 biblical scenes, from the story of Moses to the Crucifixion of Christ. Visit during the day and you’ll see the light transform into what feels like a divine radiance—an experience both grand and unforgettable.
The Historic Conciergerie
Just next door is the Conciergerie, another must-see on your Paris journey. Originally a royal palace and administrative hub from the 10th century, it later became a courthouse under Charles V. During the French Revolution, its role darkened as it transformed into a prison where nobles and political figures, including Marie Antoinette, awaited the guillotine. Today, her cell is preserved as a memorial, and the building reveals both the grandeur of a medieval palace and the somber history of revolutionary justice.
From Royalty to Revolution
The Conciergerie embodies the complex layers of French history. Here, you can glimpse medieval palace life, explore the halls of justice, and witness the prison that once defined the Revolution. It’s a place where France’s regal past and turbulent struggles for justice come together under one roof.
