Michelangelo's David

The centerpiece of the tour is David, which Michelangelo carved from a single block of marble between 1501 and 1504. The statue, more than 5 m tall, originally stood in Piazza della Signoria and was moved to this museum in 1873 for preservation. Your guide shares the stories behind the work and the historical background of Renaissance Florence.

Masterpieces Around David

In the corridor leading to David stand Michelangelo's unfinished "Prisoners" (Slaves) series, made for the tomb of Pope Julius II, where the figures seem to emerge from the stone. Together with your guide, you also see other important works in the museum and hear interesting facts about them.

The Tour Ends Inside the Museum

The tour ends inside the Accademia Gallery. The museum exit is at Via Ricasoli 58/60.
