The Yokohama Port Museum reopened in June 2022 with new experiential simulators and VR theaters, offering even more to see. You can see the evolution of Yokohama as a port city, how it has developed since the opening of Yokohama Port, through photos and videos.

In the VR theater, experience powerful visuals on a 5-sided screen (top, bottom, left, right, and front) showing the sailing ship Nippon Maru unfurling its sails and the transformation of the Minato Mirai 21 district from its past as a shipyard to its present-day urban landscape.

The Sailing Ship Nippon Maru in Nippon Maru Memorial Park is a landmark of Yokohama. You can tour the historic interior, designated as an Important Cultural Property of Japan. While the sails are not always unfurled, they are fully set about 12 times a year according to the schedule, making it a famous photo spot.

Its beautiful appearance with sails unfurled, once called the 'Swan of the Pacific,' attracts many visitors. You can see the actual ship, including the deck with its masts and numerous ropes, displays of training during its voyages, and the history of the Nippon Maru through photos and ship supplies.

Ryōhei Yanagihara Museum

The Ryōhei Yanagihara Museum, located within the Yokohama Port Museum, is an art museum exhibiting Yanagihara's works, including oil paintings and risographs.

Yanagihara was responsible for Suntory's advertising designs. He later moved to Yamate, Yokohama, and became famous for his paintings of ships. The museum is the only place in Japan that permanently exhibits Ryōhei Yanagihara's works. Approximately 70 pieces from the 4,848 works donated to the city of Yokohama by his family, with the wish that 'many people can enjoy his art,' are on display.
