Ijen Volcano Blue Fire & Sunrise Trekking Tour - Hotel Pickup

Leave your hotel at midnight
and head to Ijen volcano

With the Banyuwangi option, you are picked up at your hotel at 23:00–23:30 and travel by shared vehicle to Ijen, arriving at the parking area around 01:30 for a briefing and rest. With the Bali option, you are picked up at your Bali hotel, cross by ferry from Gilimanuk Port to Ketapang Port in Java, then meet the driver and guide and travel to Paltuding, the trailhead.

Hike in the dark to the summit and crater

Start hiking around 02:00 and reach the summit around 03:00. Descent into the crater is allowed only when the sulfur gas is safe and you are fit enough for the steep 900 m descent; there you can see volcanic activity, sulfur miners working traditionally and the blue fire. Gas masks and headlamps are provided.

Watch the sunrise from a 2,386 m viewpoint

At 04:00–04:30, climb to the sunrise viewpoint, and from 05:00 to 06:00 enjoy the sunrise and crater views with a hot tea. There is free time for photos, and your guide explains the history of Ijen.

Descend to the parking area and return to your hotel

Walk down to the parking area around 06:00 and depart at 07:30–08:00. With the Banyuwangi option you arrive at your hotel around 09:00; with the Bali option you take the ferry back to Bali.

※ The blue fire is a natural phenomenon, so sightings cannot be guaranteed. Miners sometimes extinguish the flames to maintain sulfur production.
※ The crater area has been unstable since recent earthquakes, so descent may not be allowed depending on conditions.
