This approximately 4.5-hour tour picks you up from your accommodation in Yogyakarta before dawn for the Merapi sunrise viewpoint and a jeep safari. An English-speaking driver accompanies you, and air-conditioned transport, Mount Merapi entrance and the jeep are included.

Ride an open-roof jeep to the sunrise viewpoint

Leave your accommodation before dawn and arrive at the Mount Merapi base camp after about an hour, where you switch to an open-roof jeep. The jeep driver takes you to a sunrise viewpoint in the bunker area, about 4 km from the summit.

See the sun rise against the volcano

Watch the sun rise amid the natural scenery of the surrounding volcanoes. Early morning is the best time to see Mount Merapi.

Explore the mini museum and lava river by jeep

After sunrise, continue the jeep safari to a mini museum to see the impact of the volcano's last major eruption. Finally, the jeep drives through a lava river, where water may splash a little. After the tour, return to the base camp and drive back to your accommodation.
