From Hanoi/Sapa: Sapa Hau Thao Village 2-Day Trekking Tour with Local Homestay

Hike through Sapa's mountain villages
and stay overnight with a local family

Get picked up from your accommodation in Hanoi's Old Quarter and travel to Sapa by sleeper bus, or join directly in Sapa town, then spend two days walking through villages with a local ethnic minority guide. You hike about 12 km on day one and once more on day two on the route you choose. Meals include 2 lunches, 1 dinner and 1 breakfast of local food.

You spend the night at a homestay in a mountain village. Bedrooms have blankets, pillows and mosquito nets, and free Wi-Fi and phone/laptop charging are available.

Walk 12 km through rice terraces to Hau Thao village

After arriving at the bus office in Sapa town around 12:30-13:00, meet your local guide and have lunch at a restaurant. Then start a hike of about 12 km across rice terraces, corn and potato fields, passing villages such as Y Linh Ho and Hau Thao.

Along the way, meet local Hmong people, learn about their customs and daily life, and take a break at a waterfall. Some sections can be slippery, so trekking shoes are recommended.

Cook dinner and spend the night with a local family

At your local guide's home you are welcomed like family. If you like, chat with your host and help prepare dinner to learn how local dishes are made. After dinner, enjoy the evening atmosphere of the village and learn more about local culture.

The bathroom is shared, as is usual in local homes.

Choose a bamboo forest hike or farm work on day two

In the morning, cook breakfast with your host, then choose between hiking to more remote villages and a bamboo forest toward Giang Ta Chai, Ta Van and Lao Chai, or trying farm work such as harvesting or planting (depending on the season).

After lunch at a local restaurant, return to Sapa town by shuttle bus. You may have free time to visit the market before the sleeper bus leaves at 15:00, arriving in Hanoi's Old Quarter around 21:30-22:00.
