We really enjoyed the tour and would recommend it anytime. There was no rush and it was such a beautiful atmosphere to experience the reef. We went with to see the reef with a glass bottom boat and went snorkeling afterwards. Later we had time to do some stand up paddling and walk around the island. On the way back we spotted crocodiles. Thanks a lot to the friendly crew, it was a perfect day 😍

This was an amazing day trip with a very friendly crew to a beautiful part of the world. During the day, my husband and I were sitting on the beach watching the snorkellers go out when Abby from the team approached us and asked if we’d like to snorkel. My husband said he is a non swimmer and had never snorkelled before, whereupon she asked him if he’d like to go out with her as a guide. He put on a life jacket and his snorkel and she pulled him out on the water with him holding on to a buoyancy aid… it was one of the most memorable experiences of his life! The lunch was also excellent and transport was on time. Thoroughly recommended!

It was a fantastic day out. Everyone was kind & helpful. Good food & stunning location with no crowds Excellent for snorkelling & seeing turtles, starfish etc . Some went for a walk around the island. That would be better earlier so they can cool down with a swim afterwards. Amazing day & I highly recommend doing it 😍

We had mixed weather but this tour was incredible nonetheless. Obviously what you see depends on luck and the weather is the weather, so your trip will be different. That being said I was so impressed. The guides were all friendly, knowledgeable and approachable. we did the safari swim and saw several turtles. we snorkels the rest of the day and did the island walk at the end, where we saw a small shark. On the river, our driver, Victor, made sure we got as close as possible to a crocodile in the river. it was such a perfect day that I cried coming back because it was over. everyone working on the island Aug 16th was so wonderful, including the bus driver. The absolute best thing I did while staying in Cairns. Everyone was so enthusiastic and kind.

Program

Travel by coach through the rainforest
to Deeral

Start the day by boarding an air-conditioned coach from your Cairns accommodation. Head south for about 75 minutes through the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Wet Tropics rainforest, passing sugarcane fields and the iconic Walsh's Pyramid.

Cruise along the Mulgrave River

At Deeral, board the boat for a 30-minute cruise on the calm waters of the Mulgrave River, followed by a short open-sea crossing to Normanby Island. It is one of the routes from Cairns with a shorter time at sea to reach the Great Barrier Reef.

Spend the day your way on Normanby Island

This tour is run by an operator permitted to land on Normanby Island, so you can spend over 5 hours freely on an uncrowded island. Snorkeling gear and instruction are provided for unlimited beach snorkeling, and you can join a guided beach-to-reef snorkel or explore the reef by semi-sub.

Kayaks, stand-up paddle boards, a guided island and coastal walk with a marine biologist, and a treasure hunt for kids are also available. If you prefer to take it easy, relax on the beach or in the shade of the trees.

Beach buffet lunch and return to Cairns

Enjoy a buffet lunch on the beach, with morning and afternoon tea and bottled water provided throughout the day. In the afternoon, return to Cairns by boat and coach, arriving in the late afternoon.
