From Cairns: Fitzroy Island Day Trip by Return Ferry

Wat een super dag! De boot was wat oud, maar prima om 45 min gebracht te worden! Het eiland was echt waanzinnig. Onze tips: start met de 2 hikes naar de top en het vuurtorentje, zodat je de hitte voor bent. Boek de snorkel spullen erbij, dit is echt een must, je kan gelijk bij het begin snorkelen, hier heb je grote kans op het zien van schildpadden. Ga vervolgens de korte hike doen richting het strandje, dit is echt een geweldig uitzicht en een van de bijzonderste plekken om te snorkelen. Super mooi koraal en heel veel vissen! Wii hebben zelfs met een inktvis gezwommen en een peilstaart rog! Eet ten slotte een lekkere burger in het cafe met een geweldig uitzicht!

Overall, was a good trip and definitely worth visiting the island. Didn’t end up snorkelling due to the weather being cold, rainy and overcast, which was a shame and made the full day on the island harder to fill. Would recommend the shorter trip to the island if not planning to do activities such as snorkelling or hiking. The view from the top of the island and lighthouse was lovely. It is a difficult track to walk in things/sandals and I ended up hurting my knee as a result- my fault for not taking runners. The boat trip on the way back to the main island broke down a few times, so we were stuck in very rocky waves. Staff were great distributing bags for guests. Arrived about 45 min later than scheduled. I do recommend going, just take considerations based on my experience and others feedback.
