Highlights
This guided tour departs from Ivalo in Finnish Lapland and takes you to Lake Lahajärvi to experience ice fishing, a Finnish winter tradition. Learn traditional Lapland winter fishing methods passed down through generations: drilling a hole in the ice ('kairaaminen'), ice fishing ('pilkkiminen') and catching fish with a net under the ice ('juomustus'). After fishing, build a campfire and cook the fish you caught in a variety of ways. All the equipment and tableware needed for cooking and eating are provided, so you can relax by the campfire in peaceful nature.
Program
Learn traditional Lapland ice fishing
on Lake Lahajärvi
Depart at 10:00 AM from the Eräsoppi store in Ivalo and drive to Lake Lahajärvi. Please arrive at the store by 9:45 AM to get ready. The whole tour takes about 5 hours.
Try three winter fishing methods
With your guide, try the traditional methods one by one: drilling a hole in the ice (kairaaminen), fishing with an ice rod (pilkkiminen) and catching fish with a net under the ice (juomustus). It is your chance to catch fish that grow in the cold, clear northern waters.
Cook your catch over an open fire
After fishing, build a fire and cook your catch in various ways over the outdoor campfire. Everything you need for cooking and eating is provided. You will return to the store around 3:15 PM.
※ Weather conditions can change quickly in winter.
※ Catches depend on natural conditions and cannot be guaranteed.
