Highlights
Departing from Saariselkä in Finnish Lapland, this tour takes you through snowy landscapes on a husky sled. After learning safety rules and driving techniques from an experienced musher, you will drive your own sled and lead a husky team on a 10 km track. After the ride, you can visit a small-scale husky kennel to play with the dogs and take photos. Warm up with a hot drink in a kota, a traditional Lapland hut. Hotel pickup and drop-off as well as warm overalls, boots and gloves are included.
Program
Get picked up in Saariselkä
and head to the husky farm
After pickup from your accommodation in Saariselkä or Ivalo, travel by van for about 1 hour to the starting point in Vaskoniemi. On arrival, meet your guide, put on the warm overalls, boots and gloves provided, and spend about 15 minutes learning safety rules and driving techniques from an experienced sled driver. The warm clothing is provided on site at no extra cost.
Drive your own sled on a 10 km track
Two people share each sled: one drives while the other rides as a passenger. You switch roles halfway through the ride, so you both get to be the musher leading the husky team. If one person does not want to drive, it is fine for the other to drive the whole way.
Spend time with the huskies at the kennel
After the ride, visit the husky kennel to play with the dogs, take photos and hear stories about their lives. It is a small kennel with the motto "quality over quantity" and operates only in small groups. Finally, relax with a warm drink in the kota.
Return to your accommodation
After the safari, travel by van for about 1 hour back to your accommodation in Saariselkä or Ivalo. The time at the kennel totals 2 hours, including the sled ride.
