Walk or cycle along the Xi'an City Wall
and explore a Ming Dynasty fortress

This general admission ticket lets you climb onto the Xi'an City Wall, built during the Ming Dynasty, and explore it freely. The wall is open from 08:00 to 22:00 (hours vary slightly by gate), and you can stroll on foot or rent a bicycle on site to ride along the top. Explore at your own pace without a guide.

See watchtowers, battlements and the moat

The tall watchtowers, battlements and deep moat that once guarded the ancient imperial capital still remain. Walking along the massive stone wall, you can look down and see how the ancient city was planned and defended. You can also see grand gates such as the South Gate (Yongning Gate), once the most ceremonial entrance to the fortress.

Overlook the old streets and modern downtown

Traditional residential neighborhoods spread out on one side of the wall and lively modern downtown Xi'an on the other. Visit in the late afternoon or around sunset to see the wall glowing in the evening light and the city lighting up at night.
