Highlights

Spend three days walking through the ethnic minority villages of Sapa's Muong Hoa Valley with a local Hmong woman guide. Look out over Mount Fansipan and the rice terraces from the Dragon Mountain viewpoint, then pass Black Hmong and Red Dao villages such as Hang Da, Hau Thao, Su Pan, Giang Ta Chai and Lao Chai. You spend two nights in a homestay run by your guide's family, sharing meals and getting a close look at local daily life and culture.

Program

Walk through Sapa's minority villages
for 3 days with a Hmong guide

This 3-day, 2-night trekking tour starts when your guide meets you at your hotel in Sapa town or in front of Sapa Notre Dame Cathedral. Over three days you walk about 28 km past the rice terraces of the Muong Hoa Valley and Black Hmong and Red Dao villages, and spend two nights in your guide's family homestay. Three lunches, two dinners, two breakfasts and entrance fees for 8 villages are included, and a vehicle takes you back to Sapa after the last day's trek.

Day 1: Pass the Dragon Mountain viewpoint
and head to Hau Thao village

After meeting at 9:00 AM and a short introduction, you climb about 1 km along a trail to the Dragon Mountain viewpoint. From here you can see Mount Fansipan (3,143 m), the highest peak in Indochina, along with Sapa town and the rice terraces of the Muong Hoa Valley. You then follow the hillside to the Black Hmong village of Hang Da and have lunch at a small restaurant run by a local family.

After lunch, a small path leads down to Hau Thao village. Depending on the season, you may see locals working in the fields planting or harvesting rice. At your guide's family homestay you can take a hot shower and relax before dinner with the family. Day 1 covers about 10-15 km in roughly 6 hours.

Day 2: Visit Su Pan village
and Giang Ta Chai waterfall

After breakfast at the homestay, you walk down to Hau Thao and on to Su Pan, a small mountain village of Black Hmong people. Take photos against a panoramic view of the rice fields, then climb again to Giang Ta Chai waterfall. In the Red Dao area, you briefly visit a local family and learn about their culture and daily life with your guide.

You cross a second suspension bridge back to the waterfall, have lunch at a small restaurant run by a Hmong family in Giang Ta Chai village, then move on to Ta Van village to spend the second night at the homestay. Day 2 covers about 9-11 km in roughly 5.5 hours.

Day 3: Pass Lao Chai and Y Linh Ho
and return to Sapa

After breakfast, start the final trek toward Lao Chai and Y Linh Ho. In Lao Chai you cross a bridge over the Muong Hoa River and continue uphill, enjoying wide views of the rice terraces and the Hoang Lien Son mountains. After the trek a vehicle takes you back to Sapa, and the tour ends around 3:00-3:30 PM. Day 3 covers about 9-13 km in roughly 5.5 hours.

※ Farming scenes such as rice planting or harvesting, and animals such as buffalo, may not be seen depending on the season.
