Start from your Sa Pa hotel
and trek to Lao Chai and Ta Van
This guided day trek picks you up at your hotel in Sa Pa and covers about 12 km (7.5 miles) through the Muong Hoa Valley to the villages of Lao Chai and Ta Van. An English-speaking guide leads the way, and a local lunch at a village home, a bottle of water and the ride back to Sa Pa are included. Meet your guide in the hotel lobby between 9:00 and 9:30 AM.
Walk past rice terraces to a Black Hmong village
Leave Sa Pa town, walk through the rice fields and follow the streams of the Muong Hoa Valley to Lao Chai, a Black Hmong village. Along the way, enjoy views of the rice terraces and the Hoang Lien Son mountains while your guide shares the culture, traditions and history of the Hmong and Giay people.
Have a local lunch at a home in Lao Chai
In Lao Chai, get a glimpse of local daily life and enjoy a lunch cooked the traditional way at a villager's home. You can also taste local snacks and dessert during the day.
Learn to make traditional incense in Ta Van
After lunch, continue to Ta Van, a village of the Giay people, to learn about the local culture and how to make traditional incense with local herbs. At the end of the visit, a driver picks you up and takes you back to Sa Pa.
