Discover the history of the ancient capital
at the Xi'an Museum

Opened on May 18, 2007, the Xi'an Museum brings together modern exhibition halls, ancient temple ruins, a World Heritage pagoda and a public park in one complex. The permanent exhibition "Ancient Capital Xi'an" presents the city's history in chronological order, from the Zhou and Qin dynasties to the Han and Tang dynasties.

Explore a collection of over 110,000 relics

The museum holds more than 110,000 cultural relics, over 10,000 of which are classified as precious relics of grade three or higher. Key exhibits include a detailed wooden model of Tang-dynasty Chang'an, finely crafted Western Zhou bronzes, a Qin-dynasty jade cup with elegant cloud patterns, and vividly colored Tang tri-colored glazed figurines. You can also see a gallery of Buddhist stone statues as well as collections of ancient jade, seals and calligraphy.

Stroll around the Small Wild Goose Pagoda and Jianfu Temple

The museum complex includes the ancient Jianfu Temple and the Small Wild Goose Pagoda. The 43.4 m pagoda was built between 707 and 710 during the Tang dynasty to house Buddhist scriptures brought back from India by the monk Yijing. In 2014, it was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List as part of "Silk Roads: the Routes Network of Chang'an-Tianshan Corridor."
