Meet giant pandas up close
in the giant panda pavilion
The giant panda pavilion is a great place to start your visit to Shanghai Zoo. In a setting modeled on Sichuan, the pandas' home province, you can watch them munch bamboo and playfully climb. At scheduled feeding times, you can also watch them interact with their keepers.
Explore the bird, primate and aquatic zones

Pass through the bird zone, home to exotic pheasants and cranes, then meet gibbons swinging along the canopy trail in the primate zone. In the aquatic zone you can see otters and pelicans. Bilingual conservation boards explain each species' ecological role and China's breeding successes.
See giraffes and rhinos in the African savanna zone

In the African savanna zone, giraffes, zebras and rhinos roam spacious enclosures. The landscaping blends Chinese garden aesthetics with modern habitats, making it a pleasant place to stroll and take photos.
Time your visit for the animal enrichment program

Every day from 10:00 to 15:00, keepers run enrichment activities using specially designed toys and food puzzles to bring out the animals' natural behaviors. With more than 6,000 animals from about 400 species, your visit doubles as conservation education.
※ Animal activity and feeding sightings are not guaranteed.
