Amazing experience!

This is a true small group outing, unlike most other aurora tours. There were only 4 of us in a spot all to ourselves. Nathan runs the company and will be your guide. He is very personable and really committed to everyone having a great experience. He build a heated yurt for us, which was very warm and comfortable. He made us pizza and hot beverages, which was really nice. Nathan also was very helpful with camera settings and took some cute photos of us, as well as of the aurora. Our first night had barely any aurora, so Nathan invited us to go out the next night at no cost and we had amazing views.

Nathan was incredibly friendly and warm-hearted. He’s a professional photographer with superb skills, and he thoughtfully prepared delicious pizza and hot drinks for us, which kept us cozy and warm even staying outdoors for hours. The highlight was that he took absolutely stunning photos for us! As travelers from China, we felt his extra care and attention throughout the trip. Though the weather wasn’t perfect, he guided us to the wilderness to chase the northern lights, and we still ended up with amazing shots. Highly recommend him!

Highlights

Head into the Alaskan wilderness to photograph the aurora on this small-group tour of up to 10 people, led by Nathan, a guide and former wedding and portrait photographer. Learn the basics of the aurora and how to capture it with your own camera or phone, and receive professional-quality portraits and landscape photos with the aurora as well as a full-sky time-lapse video. While you wait, enjoy gourmet pizza baked in a stone oven and hot drinks in a heated shelter. If you do not see the aurora on your first tour, you can join a second tour for free, subject to seat availability.

Head to an aurora photo spot
with a photographer guide

After pickup at your accommodation in the Fairbanks area, ride about 1 hour in a 15-passenger van. Depending on cloud cover, the guide chooses one of several viewing spots 15–40 miles (about 24–64 km) from Fairbanks, and you enjoy a scenic drive through the Fairbanks North Star area on the way.

Enjoy stone-oven pizza in a heated shelter

At the viewing spot, the guide sets up a heated shelter with seating. Even when it is -20°F outside, the shelter warms up to as much as 85°F. Enjoy a dinner of gourmet pizza fresh from a stone oven for about 45 minutes, along with hot cocoa, coffee, hot cider, or chai tea.

Learn how to photograph the aurora

Learn the basic science behind the aurora and get tips on settings for photographing it with your own camera and phone. During photo time, you can receive free professional-quality portraits and landscape photos with the aurora, plus a full-sky aurora time-lapse video.

While waiting for the aurora, you can also take creative night photos and portraits. After the shoot, ride about 1 hour back to Fairbanks by van.
