Gödöllő Royal Palace Tour from Budapest (Summer Palace of Empress Sisi)

History buffs, specifically those who are fans of the famous “Sisi”, would most appreciate this activity. If your time in Budapest is limited, skip it. Our tour was conducted in both English and German. I know from experience that this is exhausting for a guide. It also means the tour takes longer. Elisabeth, our tour guide, was full of interesting information, even though she acknowledged the strain of offering it in two languages. The van used for transportation was a bit cramped. A ride of nearly an hour each way was not super comfortable. Overall, the tour delivered what the online description promised.

First off, our tour guide was fantastic. She was extremely knowledgeable and friendly. My 4 star ranking is based solely on the tour itself; I'm much more interested in the outer architecture of castles/palaces, as well as the gardens and grounds. This tour was almost entirely of the inside, which is not my cup of tea. The rooms are not very large, so we kept getting sandwiched between groups, which felt a bit confining. We had about 15 minutes to explore the grounds after the tour, which felt rushed. I was also hoping to have a slice of cake at the little cafe, but I had to choose between that and taking photos. It would be nice to have the option of the touring the inside or exploring on our own. Or perhaps extending the tour an extra hour, so there would be time to do both.
