Sydney's iconic UNESCO performing arts center.
It is a grand opera that tells the story of Turandot, a princess from ancient Beijing, China.
At the heart of this tale is Turandot, a princess with a heart as cold as ice. She imposes a cruel rule: any prince who proposes marriage to her must answer three riddles, and those who fail to answer them must be executed without mercy. Countless princes have already attempted these riddles and lost their lives. Then, Calaf, the secretly unnamed prince of Tartar, is captivated by Turandot's beauty and, despite the earnest protests of his father Timur and his maid Liu, decides to risk his life.

Beautiful Chinese ancient stage production
Opera Turandot
The staging of Turantot focuses on conveying a more intense and concentrated energy to the audience, taking advantage of the limited space. It recreates the mysterious and imposing imperial palace of ancient Beijing. This overwhelming set design maximizes the sense of insignificance and tension of the princes who challenge the riddles before it. Furthermore, the splendid and elaborate Oriental costumes and props worn by the hundreds of chorus and cast fill the stage seamlessly, creating the ultimate visual spectacle. The lighting, which constantly changes with the flow of the play, utilizes symbolic hues like red, blue, and gold, dramatically heightening the characters' inner psychology and the overall tension of the play.
Music that maximizes emotion

The opera's most famous OST is undoubtedly the tenor aria "Nessun dorma" ("The Princess Sleeps Not") sung by Calaf in Act 3. This piece captures Calaf's hope for victory and yearning for love as he waits for dawn, convinced that Turandot will never learn his name. Beginning with the cry "Let no one sleep," this aria, with its dramatic melody and explosive high notes, has become one of the most beloved pieces among opera fans worldwide. Puccini's signature majestic and lyrical melodies stand out, and it is a key piece that marks the opera's climax. Filling the magnificent space of the Sydney Opera House, this aria delivers unforgettable thrills to audiences.
