When I came to Yakushima, I always wanted to do the Shiratani Unsuikyo trek. I was excited because it's the backdrop for Princess Mononoke, but I was truly overwhelmed from the moment I entered the forest. Moss covered the rocks and trees, making it feel like something out of a fantasy movie. The guide stopped here and there to tell us about the ages of the trees and tell us stories, making it feel like I was on a journey rather than just walking. The trail wasn't as difficult as I thought, and there were plenty of rest stops, so it wasn't too strenuous. Even after I came down, the smell of the forest and the moist air lingered in my mind! I highly recommend it! 👍
