How to Exchange Your JR Hokkaido Rail Pass

The JR Hokkaido Rail Pass purchased on WAUG is issued as an exchange order, which must be exchanged for a physical ticket locally. The main exchange locations are the JR Foreign Visitors' Information Desk at Sapporo Station and the JR Foreign Visitors' Information Desk at New Chitose Airport Station. Over 75% of travelers exchange their passes at the New Chitose Airport Station. Staff are available who can speak Korean, English, and Chinese, and they can assist with exchanging various passes, including the Hokkaido Rail Pass.

Simply present your WAUG voucher at the JR Sapporo Station West Exit or the JR Foreign Visitors' Information Desk at New Chitose Airport Station to receive your ticket. It's that easy!

What are the Benefits of the JR Hokkaido Rail Pass?

The Hokkaido Rail Pass combines the Sapporo-Noboribetsu Area Pass and the Sapporo-Furano Area Pass, allowing you to freely travel to Noboribetsu, Furano, Biei, and more for 10 days. You can use all JR trains to travel throughout Hokkaido, from New Chitose Airport to Sapporo, Otaru, Noboribetsu, Furano, and Biei.

Unlike area passes, you can use both reserved and non-reserved seats. However, please note that you cannot use the Hokkaido Shinkansen, Donan Isaribi Railway, streetcars, or subways.

How to Reserve Seats

The Hokkaido Rail Pass allows you to use reserved seats in ordinary cars (excluding the SL Fuyu-no-Shitsugen Train). 

How to Reserve Seats:
1. Be sure to obtain a reserved seat ticket before boarding a reserved seat.
2. Apply for reserved seats at the station: JR Information Foreign Visitors' Desk, ticket counters (Midori-no-Madoguchi) at major JR Hokkaido stations, or reserved seat ticket machines.

How to Ride the Train

Insert the rail pass into the automatic ticket gate to pass through. Please be careful not to leave your rail pass behind when passing through the automatic ticket gate! Some people forget to take it.
