BESTThe garden is very large and peaceful. It is well-maintained. There is a place selling old-fashioned dango in the garden, and it is a beautiful place where local people come to take wedding photos and model magazine shoots.

Sankeien Garden, a traditional Japanese garden established in 1906
Sankeien Garden is a Japanese-style garden located in Sankeien, Honmoku Sannotani, Naka Ward, Yokohama. It was created by Hara Tomitaro (Sankei), an entrepreneur and tea ceremony master. The garden features 17 historic structures, including 10 buildings designated as Important Cultural Properties of Japan and 3 buildings designated as Tangible Cultural Properties of Yokohama.
The garden is designed to harmonize with the natural terrain and features gentle hills, ponds, and diverse plant life. The Sankei Memorial Hall within the garden houses materials and artworks related to Sankeien and Hara Tomitaro. New exhibits are rotated approximately once a month. The museum also has a traditional tea house where you can enjoy matcha and a shop selling Japanese雜貨 (miscellaneous goods) and sweets.

Explore Sankeien Garden, one of Japan's three most beautiful gardens
Located in Yokohama, near Tokyo, lies Sankeien Garden, renowned as one of Japan's three most beautiful gardens. Sankeien Garden was created by Hara Sankei, a Yokohama merchant who amassed his fortune through trade, during the late Meiji and Taisho periods. It's an exceptionally large private garden, spanning approximately 175,000 square meters.
The outer garden was opened to the public for free in 1906, the year of its completion, serving as a resting place for Yokohama citizens. Although severely damaged by earthquakes and World War II, it was restored to its current state in 1958 and designated a Place of Scenic Beauty in Japan in 2007.
Beautiful throughout the Seasons

Sankeien Garden offers a different landscape each season, allowing visitors to observe various flowers year-round. Cherry blossoms and azaleas bloom in spring, lush greenery thrives in summer, leaves turn red in autumn, and the snow-covered scenery in winter is breathtaking. Visit Sankeien Garden to experience its distinct charm in every season and witness its stunning beauty.
Rinshunkaku, an Important Cultural Property

Sankeien is composed of two main areas: the outer garden, opened to the public in 1906, and the inner garden, which Hara Sankei used as his private residence. While the outer garden, with its pagoda relocated from Kyoto's Toji Temple, offers an open landscape with seasonal flowers, the inner garden features traditional buildings like tea houses, showcasing a more intricate design.
Among these, Rinshunkaku, believed to have been built in the mid-17th century as a villa for the Kishu Tokugawa family, is a representative structure of Sankeien along with the pagoda, and is designated as an Important Cultural Property.
Sankei Memorial Hall

In addition to his trade business, Hara Sankei significantly contributed to the preservation and promotion of Japanese culture and art through the development and opening of Sankeien Garden, his collection of ancient art, and support for young artists. The Sankei Memorial Hall, built in 1989 based on a design by architect Ooe Hiroshi (1913-1989), exhibits and introduces his achievements, related materials, and artworks.
The hall also houses a tea room offering authentic tea ceremony experiences with comfortable tables and chairs, as well as a museum shop selling Japanese miscellaneous goods, providing diverse attractions and enjoyment.
