An Important Site for Medieval Church Reform:
Cluny Abbey
The Cluny Abbey and Museum is a medieval abbey ruin and museum located in the village of Cluny in the Burgundy region of France. Founded in the 10th century, Cluny Abbey was the most powerful and influential monastery in Western Europe from the 12th to the 14th centuries and served as the center of the Cluniac Reform movement.
Although most of the abbey buildings were destroyed after the French Revolution, excavation and restoration work was carried out in the 19th century, and about 20% of the original size remains today. The museum displays artifacts related to Cluny Abbey and medieval works of art, so it's worth seeing together.
