Did you know that the route to Mount Hiei consists of a single-tier cable car and a two-tier ropeway?
The Eizan Ropeway travels 486 meters to the summit of Mount Hiei in three minutes. From the window, you can enjoy cherry blossoms in spring and a tunnel of autumn foliage. Once at the summit, you can take a shuttle bus to the World Heritage site Enryakuji Temple or admire the breathtaking scenery from the observation deck.

Climbing Mount Hiei

Mount Hiei, 848 meters high, is home to Enryaku-ji Temple, founded in 788. It's a popular spot, offering panoramic views of Kyoto's traditional landscape, including Lake Biwa.
There are several ways to climb Mount Hiei, but the most convenient and beautiful way is to take the Eizan Cable Car, then transfer to the ropeway to reach the summit.

After disembarking from the Eizan Cable Car, take the ropeway to the summit of Mount Hiei, a 486-meter journey that takes three minutes! This simple and comfortable ride takes you to the summit, and you can admire Kyoto's seasonal colors from above.

Take the Eizan Electric Railway and get off at Demachiyanagi Station or Yase Hieizanguchi Station.
From Kyoto Municipal Subway's Kokusai Kaikan Station, take the bus bound for Kyoto Yase/Ohara and get off at Yase Station.
Cable car and ropeway operations will be suspended from Monday, December 15th to Friday, December 19th.
