The Elbphilharmonie was completed as part of a project to regenerate Hamburg's old port. An old cocoa warehouse was renovated to build a concert hall and hotel. However, construction costs were higher than expected, and it was delayed several times. Eventually, a quarter of the construction costs were filled by public donations.
Now, it has become a new landmark of Hamburg and a new cultural symbol of Germany, hosting unofficial events of the G20. The view of Hamburg from the observatory of this building is also very famous.
