The Museum of Modern Art (MOMA) in New York City is a must-see museum in New York, offering a unique collection of modern and contemporary art. The sixth-floor art gallery also features works by Picasso and van Gogh. In 2019, the museum underwent a renovation that transformed the space, encompassing approximately 3,300 square feet (1,000 m2).

Small MoMA Visiting Tips

The Museum of Modern Art is open daily from 10:30 AM to 5:30 PM, and until 7 PM on Saturdays. The museum states that mornings are the busiest time, so visiting in the afternoon is recommended for a more leisurely experience. For a quicker visit, enter through the main entrance of the Rockefeller Building on 53rd Street. The museum is located near 6th Avenue.

Look down from the 5th floor

To truly appreciate the Museum of Modern Art in New York, I recommend starting on the fifth floor, where the museum boasts the largest collection of major works. The fifth floor displays works from the 1880s to the 1940s, featuring works by artists like Van Gogh and Monet. Van Gogh's "Starry Night" is on display in room 502. Let's take a look at the fifth-floor exhibit in advance.

The fourth floor features works from the 1940s to the 1970s, while the third floor showcases experimental pieces we typically associate with contemporary art. You can see Jeff Koons' Pink Panther sculptures here. The second floor showcases works from the 1970s to the present. Beyond this, a diverse collection of exhibits changes monthly and quarterly. Be sure to start on the fifth floor and work your way down!

Artists you can meet at MoMA

The reason we visit the Museum of Modern Art in New York is to see the works of various artists. The museum displays the works of a whopping 12,895 artists. I'll introduce some of my personal favorites! Must-sees include works by Jeff Koons, Michel Majerus, Martin Kippenberger, Tom Wesselmann, and Claes Oldenbird. You can also see works by Robert Delaunay and Florine Stettheimer.

If you come to MoMA, you have to go to Cafe 2.
