Goryokaku Tower was built at the end of the Edo period. The unique star-shaped Goryokaku Park can only be seen in its entirety from above. In spring, you can see the pink scenery full of cherry blossoms, and in winter, you can see the white snow falling softly.

The first floor of Goryokaku Tower has a central garden (atrium). You can enjoy coffee and snacks in a place full of plants. The observation deck is divided into the 1st and 2nd floors! The 1st floor observation deck is located 86m above the ground and you can buy souvenirs. Tower and Observatory

Goryokaku Tower was first completed in 1964. It was renovated to its current form in 2006 and reopened. It is 107m high and is the tallest building in Hakodate.

From the 86m and 90m-high observation decks on the top of the tower, you can see great views of Mt. Hakodate, the Tsugaru Strait, and the Yokotsu Mountains to the north, and in the evening, you can see the sunset and the city lights turning on.

There are shops and restaurants on the 1st and 2nd floors of the tower, and you can see the history of Goryokaku in the exhibition hall on the upper observation deck.

The best time to visit Goryokaku Tower is during the cherry blossom festival. At this time, you can see the pink scenery of the city dyed in pink by about 1,600 cherry trees.
